If you're using Vista/Win 7 you can simply click on the start button and type in devmgmt.msc Great! Thanks for keeping us in the loop! Great group of people in this community! Looks like Intel made a faulty chip or just simply bad drivers. And I think Asus website only has up to 1.6 which is the one I am using so ill try 1.8 and see if that helps at all but as of now this is a very strange issue that many others seem to be having.

I think intel also may have a new driver I can try that supposedly helps with this issues. However it didnt even work when I went straight into the modem so we will see. To rule out its not an issue just with my router which is an older Linksys but it still runs like a champ.

I brought the PC to work with me and I will get some of the guys here to play with it at lunch time and we can hook it up to our router here. So even if I got a new board there is a good chance I would have same issues. I was on the intel support forums and apparently ALOT of people are having similar issues with this Intel 82579V Gigabit Ethernet adapter. In the black box type ipconfig/all scroll up to Ethernet adapter and local area connection and make sure it says media state=enabled or connected also look at the physical address which is the mac id and make sure you something like ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff where F=a number or letter because every mac is different.

Next go to start and type cmd and hit enter. So now plug your modem directly into your new machine and click on start then control panel then network & internet then network and sharing center then in the left column select change adapter settings highlight local area connection then right click and click properties, click on internet protocol version 4 and make sure the radio buttons obtain ip automatically is checked and also obtain server dns is checked. If the other pc works that tells me the modem is okay. Just making sure your port is operating correctly on the modem. If you are already doing that then try another pc plugging directly into the modem. Scrap are you plugged directly into a modem or a router? If you are plugged into a router try plugging your ethernet cord from your pc to your modem.
